Offline, backups and data security

An inspection report contains a property address, the identity of its buyers, and photographs of the inside of a home. That is personal information, and it deserves to be handled as such.

Working without a network

• Capture works offline: photos are written to the device and placed in a queue.

Unlike desktop software where the data lives on one machine and backups are your responsibility, changing computers or losing a drive costs you nothing here.

The question nobody thinks to ask

With desktop software, the data lives on one machine and the backup is your job. That is quickly said, so ask the concrete versions: when did you last take a backup? Where is it? Have you ever restored it to check that it works?

Most honest answers are uncomfortable. A failed drive, a laptop stolen from a truck, ransomware: in all three cases years of reports are gone, and with them your ability to answer a dispute.
