Standards of practice
Your standard, not ours.
Most inspection software picks one standard and imposes it. If you follow CAN/CSA A770 and the tool is built around something else, your report asserts a compliance that is not yours. That is a legal statement on a document you sign.
Eight standards supported
The standard of practice is chosen in your settings. The report, the service agreement and the attestation then name explicitly the one you declared.
- CAN/CSA A770, the Canadian national home inspection standard.
- Standards of practice of the Canadian Association of Home & Property Inspectors (CAHPI).
- Standards of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI).
- Standards of InterNACHI.
- APCHQ practices and the BNQ 3009-500 standard, for inspectors working in Quebec.
- AIBQ standards, and the professional orders' standard.
A custom standard is also available for a firm applying its own framework.
What that changes in the documents
- The report names the standard followed, and never asserts a different one.
- The service agreement and the attestation carry the same standard.
- Wording specific to a given standard appears only if you actually declared it.
We do not manufacture article numbers for standards we have not read. A supported standard is a named standard; article references are cited only where they have been verified in the official text.
The scenario this is meant to avoid
An inspector has followed one framework for fifteen years. Their software is built around another, so every report they produce states that the inspection was carried out to that other standard. They have never noticed, because the sentence sits in small type on the closing page.
Two years later, a dispute. Opposing counsel reads the sentence, then checks whether the report actually meets every requirement of the standard it invokes. That is an open door, and the inspector signed it without knowing.
The fix is mundane: the standard is a setting, and the report says what you actually do. It just requires software that lets you choose.

Does Habita support CAN/CSA A770?
Yes. It is one of eight standards of practice available, and choosing it rewrites the report, the service agreement and the attestation around it.
Can I change standard later?
Yes. The standard changes in your settings, and documents produced afterwards use the new one. Reports already delivered keep the standard they were signed under.
What if I belong to an American association?
ASHI and InterNACHI are both supported, as is CAHPI on the Canadian side, in English and in French.
